Why gothic text copies and pastes everywhere

Gothic here means Fraktur, the blackletter hand used across German printing from the 1500s until the mid-twentieth century. Unicode encoded it at U+1D504 for mathematical use, which is why a medieval manuscript letterform is available to paste into a Discord name today. Five capitals — C, H, I, R and Z — are absent from that range and come from Letterlike Symbols instead. This page also carries the Currency and Manga alphabets for heavier variants; both of those are worth testing on a second device before you rely on them.

Gothic font generator FAQ

Is gothic the same as old English?

They are the same broad family of blackletter, but the traditions differ: Fraktur is the German form, while old English usually refers to the rounder Textura hand seen on newspaper mastheads. We keep separate pages because people search for them separately.

Can I use gothic text for a band logo?

As a mock-up and for social posts, yes. For artwork that gets printed, hand the wording to a designer using a real blackletter typeface, since these characters render in whatever font the viewer's device provides.

Why do a few gothic letters look unlike the rest?

The five capitals borrowed from Letterlike Symbols were drawn by different hands at a different time, so their weight and proportions vary slightly from the main block. Every Unicode gothic generator inherits this quirk.
